BGC'S MECHA UMA TO CLOSE DOWN AFTER 9 DELICIOUS YEARS

BGC's Mecha Uma is closing down after nine glorious and delicious years.

In an Instagram carousel post on Friday, the modern Japanese omakase experience helmed by Chef Bruce Ricketts announced its plans to close by December 30 2023.

"The 9 years of Mecha Uma have been groundbreaking for us all. We've grown tremendously as chefs and restaurateurs," the restaurant's note began.

Wishing everybody nothing but good things, Mecha Uma thanked "everyone who has ever spent an evening dining with us."

"And to everyone who has been a part of the Mecha Uma team, throughout the seasons, thank you for all the wonderful meals served together," it said.

In the second slide, Mecha Uma gave its operational details as it approaches closing time. Except for Christmas Eve and Christmas day, the restaurant will remain open until December 30.

It shared the team headed by the talented Bruce Ricketts will open a new counter called iai by mid 2024.

In the caption, the restaurant wrote, "As we celebrate Mecha Uma’s 9 groundbreaking years as the country’s first chef’s counter offering an innovative, seasonal omakase experience, we hope to cook for you one last time during its last few days."

"Bruce Ricketts and team will then see you again next year at iai," it ended the note.

Chef Bruce and team Mecha Uma stunned the Manila dining scene with its fresh and innovative approach to dining, that got the world of food to pay attention. In 2016, Mecha Uma was included in the World's 50 Best Discovery Series.

The restaurant featured the counter seating before an open kitchen allowing the diner and the chef to interact between bites of delicious Japanese-inspired dishes.

Before Mecha Uma, Chef Bruce made a splash with Sensei Sushi, a small Japanese eatery in Parañaque, as well as the sensational La Chinesa, a casual Mexican joint serving some of Manila's best tacos.

We cannot wait for what Chef Bruce has in store next!
