CHEF RYLEY ECKERSLEY HAS OPENED A TASTING MENU RESTAURANT ON EAST 28TH AVENUE

ÄNIKS, a new communal fine dining restaurant offering a 10-course tasting menu from chef Ryley Eckersley, opened on April 17 at the north end of East 28th Avenue’s restaurant row.

The restaurant pulls inspiration from Oregon’s varied terrain, including the coast, mountains, and valleys. Eckersley, who was born in London and has cooked in restaurants around the world, previously served as the chef de cuisine at Quaintrelle until 2023 and has also worked at DOC and Olympia Provisions. The tasting menu starts at $215 per person — Reservations are available through Resy.

Jerry’s Tavern

Jerry’s Tavern, the long-awaited bar from pizzaiolo Jerry Benedetto, opened last week in Northwest Portland. Benedetto amassed a cult following and months-long waitlist during the height of the pandemic for his Chicago-style thin crust pizza, but will not be adding the dish to his menu until his pizza oven is fixed. Benedetto hopes to introduce his new pizza menu “in the near future,” and has named it Little Frank’s pizza after his daughter, Frankie. He has teased that the style of pizza will be different to what he previously served, and will instead resemble the pizza he grew up eating in northwest Illinois. The tavern currently serves bar standards such as chicken wings, fries, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, sloppy joes, and chopped salads. Benedetto hopes that the bar will become a community space for all to gather and is focused on providing Midwestern hospitality. Jerry’s Tavern is open at 3010 NW Nicolai Street.
