PORTLAND COFFEE INDUSTRY VETS HAVE ACQUIRED GUILDER AND JUNIOR’S ROASTED COFFEE

Guilder, the charming cafe known for its vegetable-forward fare and references to The Princess Bride, and Junior’s Roasted Coffee have been acquired by coffee industry veterans Ryan Wilbur and Laila Ghambari. “We’re excited to keep Guilder and Junior’s Roasted Coffee an independent, community driven company,” writes Wilbur in a press release.

The acquisition comprises three cafe locations — Guilder’s flagship on NE Fremont Street, Guilder’s at Powell’s City of Books, and Junior’s Roasted Coffee at Upright Brewing Beer Station — plus the roasting operation, which is situated within the Fremont cafe. Junior’s Roasted Coffee was founded by Mike and Caryn Nelson in Tallahassee, Florida in 2017. The couple later moved to Portland and went on to open Guilder with Toby Roberts and Carrie Lind. No changes have been announced for any of the cafes, but new owners Ghambari and Wilbur will be leading the company with a comprehensive understanding of Portland’s coffee industry. Ghambari formerly worked at Barista, and later led retail operations at Stumptown Coffee Roasters before a stint at Sortis Holdings’ Coffee Business division and launching her own consulting company. Wilbur’s experience includes working on Stumptown’s wholesale team and positions at coffee equipment manufacturers La Marzocco USA and Middleby Coffee Solutions Group.
