The co-owner of one of Austin’s essential bars, Nickel City. is opening a new swimming pool bar and restaurant in a downtown hotel this summer. Swim Club will be opening inside the Downright Austin hotel at 701 East 11th Street starting on Monday, June 24.

The Swim Club is a bar and restaurant that is set up at the Downright Austin’s actual swimming pool, which means, yes, people can drink, eat, and swim. It’s open to the public (read: it’s not just for hotel guests and there are no memberships needed for access).

Leading Swim Club is Travis Tober, the co-owner of Nickel City, Murray’s Tavern, and Half Moon in Austin; and Lockhart bar Old Pal. “Swim Club is designed to be fun and flirty,” he explains in the press release, “a laid-back space where we hope guests can come in and lose themselves for a while.”

Expect a whole 1980s Miami aesthetic that extends into the food and drinks. Cocktails include the Skinny Dipper, made with Aperol infused with strawberries, a coconut fat-washed mezcal, ginger, lime, and an herbal liqueur; the Marg, a frozen drink with tequila, orange pekoe tea, and lime; and the Sharks in the Water, made with vodka, gin, blue curacao, a pina colada mix, and a framboise float. The bar will serve food like pizza made in brick ovens and fish tacos. The chef isn’t disclosed.

Swim Club includes two other spaces, too. There’s Randy’s Radio Room, which is described as a “lively disco lounge,” per the press release. And then there’s an alfresco area dubbed the Lawn at Swim Club, with outdoor picnic tables and seating.

Swim Club is taking over a space that was going to be one of the two bars that Miami hospitality group Lost Boy & Co. was supposed to open, as Eater reported earlier in February. The two bars/restaurants was going to be run in collaboration with local company FBR Management, as announced with the hotel’s renovations at the time. However, a rep told Eater that Lost Boy isn’t part of the project anymore.

Downright Austin was previously the Sheraton at the Capitol hotel run by parent company the Marriott. The revamp debuted during South by Southwest.

Swim Club’s hours will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, with bar service until midnight those days; and then from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with bar service until 2 a.m.
