CHICAGO’S GIRL & THE GOAT IS FUNDRAISING FOR LA WILDFIRE EMERGENCY RELIEF

Chicago and the rest of the country have watched in terror as wildfires have ravaged LA becoming some of the most destructive in California history. Several Chicago chefs have LA connections including Stephanie Izard, the Chicago-area native who opened a West Coast location of Girl & the Goat in 2021 alongside Boka Restaurant Group. Izard also has a location of her Peruvian-inspired restaurant, Cabra, in the area.

Izard has announced a fundraiser for Sunday, January 19, at the Chicago location of Girl & the Goat. The team will serve brunch from an all-star lineup including Chicago chefs Jason Vincent of Giant and Jonathon Sawyer of Kindling. Maueet Chaunan, Joe Sasto, and Boston chef Karen Akunowicz will also contribute with proceeds benefitting the California Wildfire Disaster & Relief Fund.

Tickets are available via OpenTable.

Earlier in the week, Izard posted about her home near Altadena and Pasadena: “Beyond sad and scary, and far from over. Sending love and strength to all of those nearby the many fires continuing to break out around LA.”

A rep says Izard, her family, and her home are safe. The fire hasn’t damaged her restaurants. Many restaurant owners haven’t been so lucky, as areas like Malibu and Altadena have been hit hard.

In a separate effort, Chicago Chefs Cook — a group of local chefs that has raised money for various charities since 2020 — plans to raise money for LA relief efforts. Stay tuned for details.

Chefs in Action, LA Fire Relief Brunch, 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 19 at Girl & the Goat Chicago, 809 W. Randolph Street, tickets are $150 via OpenTable.
